About Sally

Sally BerryI call myself an “artistic scientist”. As a early lover of nature, photography, weather, the ocean, the biological sciences came easy for me.
Quiet in my youth, I was not good at speaking my voice until years later. I struggled with digestive problems from an early age – although otherwise very active and healthy. My very first nutrition job was in Sierra Leone, West Africa, with the Peace Corps in 1974. The two books that traveled with me were a paperback nutrition book by Adele Davis and the original version of “Diet for a Small Planet” by Francis Moore Lappe. My experience inspired me to go back to school and receive a graduate degree in Human Development with co-major in exercise physiology and nutrition education.

I have been a registered dietitian – nutritionist (RD/N) for over 35 years with certifications in Sports Nutrition (CSSD), Food Sensitivity (MRT / LEAP) and Integrative Functional Nutrition (IFN). I experienced an eclectic mix of jobs before opening my practice in 2002. Bodyfuel was my opportunity to finally express my “voice” about nutrition, food and lifestyle that were not addressed in my traditional education.

The past 10 years have been focused on sports nutrition, digestion, food sensitivities, and woman specific topics with a functional nutrition approach. I currently live in Kansas near Kansas City and part-time in California. Since 2013, I have been teaching and helping those struggling to achieve their nutrition and lifestyle goals from anywhere with virtual nutrition. I teach nutrition as an adjunct professor at the college level both in-class and online. My favorite pastimes are swimming, yoga, photography and walking on the beach. I love learning… and giving back to our environment with planet friendly groups such as Mission Blue, Monterey Bay, Community Food Circles, Plant and Soil environment. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share with you!

My mission and goal for you… To share, teach and help active adults who struggle with their digestion or how they feel – you can increase energy, increase mood, weight/metabolic function, slow aging, and gain total lifetime wellness through functional nutrition.
